چکیده

PURPOSE : To evaluate the utility and safety of drainage catheter installation for psoas/iliopsoas muscle abscesses using a one-step technique under the guidance of real-time computed tomography (CT) fluoroscopy. MATERIALS and METHODS : Ten psoas or iliopsoas muscle abscesses in 7 patients that were treated with percutaneous drainage were included in this study. All drainage procedures were carried out using a one-step technique under real-time CT fluoroscopic guidance. RESULTS : The drainage catheter insertion was performed successfully with the one-step technique in all lesions. Improvements in the patients’ symptoms and blood test results were seen after the drainage procedure in all cases. In addition, postoperative CT scans demonstrated that the abscesses had reduced in size or disappeared in all but one patient, who was transferred to another institution while the drainage catheter was still in place. No major complications were seen in any case. CONCLUSION : The one-step procedure is simple to perform. The percutaneous drainage of psoas or iliopsoas muscle abscesses with the one-step technique under real-time CT fluoroscopic guidance is accurate and safe. Moreover, compared with the two-step technique the one-step procedure results in a shorter drainage procedure and exposes the patient and operator to lower amounts of radiation. J. Med. Invest. 63 : 323-327, August, 2016

A numerical verification method for solutions of initial value problems for ODEs using a linearized inverse operator

We propose a new verification method to enclose solutions for initial value problems of systems of first-order nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) using a linearized inverse operator. The proposed approach can verify the existence and local uniqueness of the exact solution independent of the choice of the approximation scheme, while the existing methods usually depend on the numeri...

Constructive A Priori Error Estimates for a Full Discrete Approximation of the Heat Equation

In this paper, we consider the constructive a priori error estimates for a full discrete numerical solution of the heat equation. Our method is based on the finite element Galerkin method with an interpolation in time that uses the fundamental solution for semidiscretization in space. The present estimates play an essential role in the numerical verification method of exact solutions for the no...

The Cell Surface Protein Gene ecm33+ Is a Target of the Two Transcription Factors Atf1 and Mbx1 and Negatively Regulates Pmk1 MAPK Cell Integrity Signaling in Fission Yeast

The highly conserved fission yeast Pmk1 MAPK pathway plays a key role in cell integrity by regulating Atf1, which belongs to the ATF/cAMP-responsive element-binding (CREB) protein family. We identified and characterized ecm33(+), which encodes a glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored cell surface protein as a transcriptional target of Pmk1 and Atf1. We demonstrated that the gene expressio...

On very accurate enclosure of the optimal constant in the a priori error estimates for H20-projection

We present constructive a priori error estimates forH 0 -projection into a space of polynomials on a one-dimensional interval. Here, “constructive” indicates that we can obtain the error bounds in which all constants are explicitly given or are represented in a numerically computable form. Using the properties of Legendre polynomials, we consider a method by which to determine these constants t...
